A continuation of the blog on COVID-19 times from one of our younger readers …

So many questions…
I have so many questions about how people are coping with COVID-19 and it feels like it is the only thing everyone is talking about these days.  I find the topic and its ongoing impact…. well….overwhelming.

Do you feel it is safe to shop at your favourite or most convenient grocery store?

If you have to take the streetcar, what do you do when you look up and see that some people are refusing to wear masks?

Have you thought of a plan on how to keep busy and connected to loved ones in a meaningful way this winter when the weather will force you to be inside?

Have you been able to see your family in-person and not just through a computer screen?

Are you running out of interesting shows on Netflix?

Are you back at work and do you feel safe there?

I had the opportunity to return to work for a few shifts recently, I was so excited to get out the house and feel like I have a purpose again even if I wasn’t sure this would be a safe thing for me to do.  I was disappointed that many people don’t follow directions or keep a safe distance apart from one another and won’t wear a mask.  Some are quite vocal about how much they feel these protocols are unnecessary.   But do they realize how difficult their behaviour is for someone like me with health issues?  I decided the safest option was to walk away until my travel and work environment could be safe.  And that’s okay.

I have so many questions about how this is going to play out and I don’t have the answers to any of them.  But, I think the most important thing is to talk about these questions and its even more important to know you are not going crazy

It’s good to acknowledge the hard questions and to talk to someone if you are anxious or unsure what to do next. It’s crazy that this pandemic is still going on and we don’t know if and when there is an end date

I think the most important thing is to take care of yourself.  Take the time to meditate or get off the couch and do something for your body, mind and spirit. No one knows what the right decisions are to make you feel as strong as you can be, just YOU.

Listen to your body, take deep breaths, immerse yourself in nature, take a long bath, open that bottle of wine, go for a 20 km hike.   Try to live in the moment and your world will feel a little more normal.  Be kind to yourself.
